This beautiful, fragrant shampoo is designed by professionals to help protect your horse/pony/donkey from flies. The repellent properties of the shampoo are likely to increase with successive uses.

The certified organic and natural formulation also contains aloe vera, calming and soothing for all breeds and types of ponies and horses. It washes effectively but gently and is very easy to rinse out, leaving the hair silky and smooth.  A 300ml bottle will last up to 40 washes.

NB: If a non-organic product is used between uses of this shampoo any build-up of protection will be lost.

The high level of organic essential oils in The Conscious Way shampoos means that coat conditioners are not required. Even the driest, thickest, curliest coat/tail can be tamed through regular washing with our luxurious shampoos.

To clean/treat small areas - wet the area using a sponge and warm water, then squeeze a walnut-sized amount of shampoo onto the palm of your hand and dab it onto the area a little at a time. Gently massage the area, producing a lovely soft lather. You may need to add more product in the same manner, depending on the size of the area, the time of year and how much cleansing is required!

For a luxurious bath there are two different ways to give your horse a treat.
1. For best results, wet your horse all over with warm (never hot) water, using either a sponge or a gentle shower. Add 15-20mls of the shampoo to a litre bottle of clean warm water and squirt the dilution onto the horse/pony starting at the top of the mane gently rubbing the area with your other hand. Gradually work your way all over the horses body (or just the area you wish to wash), refilling the bottle when needed depending on the size of your horse or pony, the time of year, and how dirty it is!

Now for the lovely bit – use a soft brush to massage deep into your horse’s coat taking care to avoid getting product or water in his/her eyes or ears. Take your time so that both you and your best friend can enjoy the soothing and calming effect of the sandalwood and frankincense essential oils.

2. Fill a bucket (or more, depending on the size of your best friend) with warm water, add approximately 30mls of shampoo and agitate gently to thoroughly mix. Use a sponge to apply the soapy water to your horse’s coat, then use a soft brush to massage and indulge both of you as described above.

Whichever method you use, rinse thoroughly with warm water, and use a scraper to remove excess liquid from the coat. You should never leave your horse wet, so this stage is very important. Ideally take your horse for a walk or gently lunge him/her until thoroughly dry and unless the weather is warm, use an appropriate rug to prevent your horse getting chilled when you return him/her to the stable.

We recommend that you continue to use a fly rug and you may like to wash the fly rug (and mask if used) in The Conscious Equine Fly Repellent Equine Shampoo to provide even more protection for your horse.
